Prior to studying Music Therapy, Karyn worked as an Occupational Therapist both in Cape Town and London, specialising in Neurology and Geriatrics. After completing the Masters in Music Therapy programme in 2007, Karyn has worked as Music Therapist and Project Manager at the Music Therapy Community Clinic, an NPO that provides Music Therapy services in under-resourced areas. Here she worked with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of community settings. Karyn has also worked in elderly care, at Livewell Suites, a residential facility for those with Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, Karyn has been expanding her work as a private practitioner based in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town, with an interest in paediatrics, special needs and trauma.
Apart from co-founding and running Drumming with a Difference with Carol, Karyn is also a musician and teaches guitar, piano and bass privately and at Elkanah House in Parklands.

After completing her Masters in Music Therapy at the University of Pretoria at the end of 2009, Carol relocated to Cape Town to start working as a Music Therapist at a local NPO, the Music Therapy Community Clinic (MTCC). In her capacity at the MTCC she worked with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of communities and centres; providing psycho-social support through the use of Music Therapy. She also practised Music Therapy in her private capacity as well as teaching cello and piano.
At the beginning of 2013, Carol started working full-time at the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development (RAA) at UCT’s Graduate School of Business in the role of Student Development Facilitator. She is responsible for presenting the Personal Development modules as well as one-on-one counselling services for the students and alumni of the RAA. She continues to co-run Drumming with a Difference with colleague, Karyn Stuart, as well as being an active musician whenever time allows.
